The Ranger Tug R-31 Command Bridge has many features which make her feel much larger than her 31’, and make her ideal for extended cruises. The retractable flybridge also makes her trailerable. The R-31 CB was also the first Ranger Tug to feature a flybridge equipped with electronic controls at both the upper and lower helm stations.

Inconceivable is the Northwest Edition, which does not come equipped from the factory with air conditioning or a generator. However, this Edition does come equipped with a diesel forced air heater, and downrigger plugs and pads. The current owners just completed America’s Great Loop, which “chases the seasons” so not having air conditioning was never an issue.

Being a trailerable trawler makes Inconceivable an excellent choice for an owner who wants to spend winters below the 32nd parallel, and summers in the Northeast. Inconceivable could also be taken home to her “ birth place” in the Northwest.

The owners left Inconceivable outfitted with some of the conveniences they used doing their Great Loop so she is ready to go again!

Standard features: Vessel Walk-Through Inconceivable has integrated gunwale steps on either side directly into the cockpit with numerous hand holds; she can also be boarded via the swim platform. There are navigable sidewalks with hand holds to the foredeck. The steps to the flybridge are to port. The door into the interior is centered to starboard. The galley is to starboard aft of the lower helm station, which has a sliding door to the outside. Access to the ensuite master stateroom is at center forward. The second stateroom and day head is to port aft of the dinette. Construction The company known today as Ranger Tug began in 1958 as the Ranger Fiberglass Boat Company. The tugs are currently built in Auburn, WA. Fluid Motion, LLC make both Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats. The company website says that the hull needs to be “rock-solid, seaworthy, efficient, safe, handle well at speed and in close quarters and cut through the chop for a comfortable ride.” Thus the Ranger Tug hulls “are designed to perform in all areas.” Ranger Tugs include a bonded electrical system, and a foam-filled fiberglass stringer grid system. The cockpit is self-bailing, and the cleats, rails, and hardware are all stainless steel. The mast and upper helm fold to make the vessel easy to trailer. Inconceivable has a light grey hull, which is a custom color. The entire vessel has a Vinylester barrier coat. The outdoor seating is all navy blue and tan striped. All of the outdoor seating, outdoor tables, and salon door and most windows have tan Sunbrella covers. These provide both protection from the elements and privacy. Swim Platform and Cockpit The swim platform on Inconceivable is perfect for boarding the vessel while on a floating dock, or from the water. The integrated stainless steel swim ladder is to starboard, and is still accessible when the tender is mounted on the davit system. There are also fenders mounted aft which protect the swim platform while using the tender. The rails on the swim platform provide a measure of safety when the tender is deployed. The propane locker on the swim platform is painted to match the hull and can act as a seat. There is sufficient room to walk between the mounted tender and the transom. The cockpit is entered from the swim platform via a transom door to starboard, or via the gunwales on each side of the vessel. The cockpit deck is covered with Raptor decking, which was a factory installed upgrade. Inconceivable has two fold-out seats on the gunwales, which add additional cockpit seating when docked or at anchor, without the need to store chairs. The seats match the aft two person bench seat at the teak cockpit double pedestal table. The entire cockpit is covered with a hardtop lined on the underside with a woven vinyl finish. There are opening hatches in the hardtop, as well as LED lighting. A hot/cold wash-down/shower is located next to the transom door. A sink is forward to starboard, and features a Seagull fresh water faucet with a Nature Pure QC2 water purification filter in the cabinet below, which the owners added. The battery switches are also located in that cabinet with a water-tight door, A NovaKool freezer is under the steps leading to the flybride; this was a factory installed extra. There are also five drink cup holders and two covered rod holders in the cockpit. A rail mounted Magma grill is to port, and conveys with the vessel. The engine room is accessed via the electric powered engine hatch. There are two lazarettes on either side of the engine room compartment. Once the cockpit table is removed, the bench seat can be folded forward to allow access to aft of the engine room. This is where the generator would be installed on some Ranger Tugs. Foredeck and Ground Tackle The bow on Inconceivable has a hidden two person bow seat. Seat and back pads are removable for stowage when not in use. A removable fiberglass table is easily installed, which makes the foredeck yet another outside space for dining, entertaining or enjoying a glass of wine. The anchor has been upgraded to a Rocna 15kg anchor, with a Mantis bridle. There is 50’ of galvanized chain and 200’ of line stored in the anchor locker which is flush with the deck. There are foot controls for the Lewmar electric windlass on the deck; windlass controls are also on the helm station. Command Bridge Steps lead from the cockpit to the command bridge on Inconceivable. Another dining/entertaining space is aft of the helm station. Four people can sit comfortably on the two benches with a teak table between them. The hardtop over the cockpit has the 175 Watt solar panel mounted on it. The bridge forward is covered with a bimini top, installed by the owners. A double bench seat faces the helm station. All of the bridge upholstery matches throughout the entire vessel, and there are Sunbrella covers for them all. The mast folds down for easy bridge clearance. The helm also folds down for trailering the vessel, and there are places to store the handrails while on a trailer. Accommodations Salon/Dinette: The interior of Inconceivable was designed to use all of the space efficiently. The sole is a combination of non-skid and “teak and holly” manufactured wood veneer. It is in excellent condition. All of the windows have neutral striped curtains with tie backs for added privacy. All of the screened windows open, which provide great cross breeze. There are also opening ceiling hatches for additional air flow. The dinette is to port, forward of the entry into the midship stateroom/day head. The dinette is a few steps up. The teak table can be folded so it is a full dining table; it can also be folded so two drink cup holders are revealed. The dinette can also be converted to a berth. The aft bench seat is fixed, and has seating for three people. The forward bench seat has seating for two. It can be folded so that it is part of the dinette, or so it can be used as the navigator’s seat. A wood tabletop can fold up so the navigator has use of a chart table. The entire cabin is heated on the Northwest Edition. Galley: The galley is located to starboard, and is well laid out with good storage. Farthest aft is the Force 10 two burner propane stove and oven. Storage for pots is beneath the oven, which was a factory installed upgrade. A double stainless steel sink with a single lever faucet with pull-out sprayer is forward of the range; there are four storage cabinets below. A large counter can be expanded by moving the helm station seat forward, and folding it up when not in use. There are two cabinets under the counter, each with two storage drawers. The top drawer has a cutlery rack built-in. The NovaKool refrigerator with freezer compartment is located under the helm seat. A Muave’ microwave oven is built-in under the aft dinette bench seat. A Dometic wine/beverage cooler is located under the front dinette bench seat. A hatch in the sole in front of the range/oven provides access to tanks, but also has space over the tanks that can be used for storage. Lower Helm Station: The lower helm station is located to starboard, forward of the galley. The Springfield helm seat can be adjusted several ways, including sliding forward and turning. It also folds forward to provide a larger galley counter. There is a foot rest and step to the sliding door to starboard. This door allows access to the foredeck for line handling. The helm station is well organized and uncluttered. The four windows forward provide good visibility and each have a windshield wiper. The Jensen TV/DVD is mounted in the ceiling over the windshield windows and folds up for storage while underway; the TV can also be used to mirror the helm Garmin display. Master Stateroom: Inconceivable has an ensuite v-berth master stateroom. The two piece door is to center forward. The lower portion of the door folds in half for stowage and can be used for privacy when dressing. The upper portion of the door slides and provides complete privacy. There is also a curtain that can be used for privacy when changing or for privacy when guests need to use the ensuite head/shower. The island bed features a memory foam mattress. The mattress is split, to provide access to the large storage area below. There are several storage cabinets, with good storage. A wood tabletop folds down to provide an end table to port. The Jensen TV/DVD is mounted on the wall across from the berth. There are several reading lights, and courtesy lights around the bed that are remote controlled and can be set to a variety of colors. Master Head: The ensuite head is to port and can be entered from the master stateroom. The door has two towel bars and a hook. The head converts to a shower using the Plexiglas panels, which hang in the head when not in use, and the shower curtain. The shower faucet features a one-button shut-off to conserve water while not needing to adjust the temperature. The head also features a Tecma electric head, a blue glass bowl sink, a non-skid sole, a mirrored medicine cabinet, and storage under the vanity. Midship Stateroom/Day Head: The midship stateroom/day head is aft of the dinette, to port. There is a two piece door. The lower portion is smoked Plexiglas which folds in for stowage and can be used for privacy when dressing. The upper portion of the door is wood, and also folds, but can provide complete privacy. The sole is non-skid. The vinyl seat lifts to reveal a Tecma electric day head. There are reading lights, and a hanging clothes bar for when the berth is not being used for guests.
