~What do most boaters expect from a mid-size convertible? It's simple really: good performance and comfortable accommodations in a boat that's small enough to operate without a full-time crew. The Hatteras 50 Convertible provides just that, plus a whole lot more.

Thanks to recent design enhancements, the 50 Convertible competes with any builder on the performance front with a 36-knot cruise and 40-knot top end. And unlike the "go fast" boats that emphasize speed at the price of hull strength, the solidly built Hatteras 50 will keep you at the front of the pack right into the teeth of a steep head sea.

Inside, the 50 provides comfort, spaciousness and luxury to spare through a proven accommodation plan, expert craftsmen, an in-house team of interior décor professionals, and a commitment to use only the highest quality materials. Thanks to an optional mid-level galley and a bow stateroom that offers a queen berth or over/under bunks, owners can customize this yacht to serve as a weekend getaway for two couples or as a home away from home for the entire family.

Operating the 50 Convertible is a pleasure. An oversized flybridge with two helm chairs and two bench seats provide seating for captain and six guests. A pod-style helm with recessed electronics box and single-lever controls will please any captain, and an electronics suite complete with depth sounder, chart plotter, VHF and autopilot are included as standard equipment.

In the 135-square-foot cockpit, fishability comes standard in the form of a large bait freezer, oversized fish box and a complete bait and tackle center.

Whether you're headed offshore to fish a tournament or down the coast for some quality family time, the 50 Convertible will get you there and back in confidence, thanks to the rugged standards Hatteras uses to build each and every yacht that leaves its plant. Cruise with the assurance that comes from a solid fiberglass hull bottom, fit precisely to a superstructure and flybridge cored with Divinycell for long-lasting durability in a lightweight package. Fish the sloppiest seas, knowing there's not an ounce of structural wood to rot with water intrusion. And enjoy years of pain-free boating that come from the industry's best combination of quality components and after-market service.

Standard features: If you haven't sea trialed a Hatteras lately, you may be in for a surprise on your next run. Thanks to her precise tunnel hull design and other performance enhancements, the 50 Convertible attains 39-plus knots with a pair of 1,400-hp Caterpillar 3412E engines. She cruises at a comfortable 35 knots.

Like all Hatteras yachts, the 50 Convertible attains high speeds without sacrificing her soft ride or rock-solid hull. Hatteras hulls are hand-laid with solid fiberglass and vinylester resins to provide impact resistance while eliminating the potential for core separation in this crucial area. A network of interlocking vacuum-bagged composite bulkheads and foam-core fiberglass stringers support the solid glass bottom.

Captains will appreciate the clear visibility from the helm. The view of the bow is unobstructed, and the entire aft cockpit remains in view even from a seated position. The extended cockpit overhang provides crew with plenty of protection from the sun and gives the captain room to work behind the standard Murray Products helm chairs.

On the helm console, a recessed box houses a standard suite of electronics that includes VHF, autopilot, depth sounder and chart plotter. Standard electronic single-lever controls and a pod-style helm give the 50 a custom feel. Twin bench seats provide seating for guests and copious rod storage, and a top-loading insulated drink box keeps the captain happy on the hottest of days.

In the 135-square-foot cockpit, Hatteras provides the fishing gear you need. The bait and tackle center includes plenty of drawer storage for gear as well as a top-loading bait freezer and sink. An 80-inch fish box with macerator pump will keep the catch on ice, and quick-connect saltwater and freshwater washdown connections ease the cleanup. Four rod holders, dry storage in the salon step, a transom door and a stainless-steel plate for mounting a fighting chair all come standard.
All Hatteras interiors benefit from expert craftsmanship and quality components. Only the finest upholsteries find their way aboard, and all veneers are made from genuine maple or cherry wood, not compressed particles. Whisperwall panels and headliners give a luxurious look and feel, and prove easy to maintain over years of use. Dimmable lighting will create the appropriate mood, whether you're entertaining guests in the fully equipped galley or watching a movie on the standard entertainment center with surround-sound quality audio and CD/DVD.

In addition to the standard interior packages, countless designs can be produced for the 50 Convertible by Hatteras' in-house décor team. No matter how you finish the salon, though, you'll enjoy a spacious compartment with plenty of comfortable seating and useable storage.

To open up the layout further, opt for the two-stateroom, mid-level galley arrangement. With this layout, meals can be prepared with increased privacy while everyone aboard enjoys an expansive social area.

The standard arrangement on the 50 Convertible calls for three staterooms and two heads. The master features a queen-size berth amidships to starboard with private head just forward. The aft bulkhead is finished in a plexi-mirror for an airy feel and includes a 20-inch LCD television with 6-disk CD/DVD player standard.

A second queen berth in the bow provides plenty of room for guests. Both berths lift on pneumatic rams to reveal cedar-lined storage, and several additional drawers and cedar-lined lockers will hold enough gear for an extended stay aboard. To port are two over/under bunks with a shared day head.
