Unique is an absolute term defined as one of a kind. The term unique has been applied to other sailboats, but never has it been so applicable as when used to describe the Northeast 400 motorsailer. Traditionally, motorsailers have been criticized as neither sailing well nor motoring well. What makes the Northeast 400 series unique is that it truly does both well. In a fresh breeze, the Northeast has sailed in excess of 9 knots and over 7 knots upwind, and her Yanmar diesel provides cruising speeds of 8 to 9 knots under power topping out an amazing 10+ knots.
One has only to step aboard to appreciate the true meaning of "one of a kind". A generous aft section provides for a large uncluttered cockpit. Entering the cockpit through a transom door from your dock or dinghy, it is unnecessary to climb over the side of the boat. From the swim platform, through the cockpit and into the main cabin there is but one level.... no climbing up and down stairs. The cockpit lockers are big enough for everything including bicycles.
From the cockpit you enter the main saloon/wheelhouse through sliding doors to a world of fit and finish which is rich and warm in the plantation grown teak wood joinery that has made Cabo Rico built yachts so highly thought of around the world. A bright pleasant atmosphere with wonderful visibility, it is a great place to be in those moments of dirty weather or burning sun.
Three easy steps down from the saloon you encounter a full galley, a good-sized head with stall shower and a guest stateroom to starboard. Optionally, this area can be had as a charming den/study or bed-sitting room. The owners cabin forward, features a queen-size berth with incredible stowage beneath it.
