Actual Location: Onset, MA
This is NOT a regular monohull sailboat. Further, this boat has little relation to its original model, except for the hull and deck forms. Due to its overwhelmingly extensive upgrades, the model year would be better represented by declaring the boat a 2008 model. What follows is a description of modifications and characteristics of this highly-evolved, lightweight, easily trailerable, shoal draft, moveable/variable water ballast, sport boat with its cloud of sail. The original teak veneer plywood interior was removed and completely reformed with lightweight PVC foam and fiberglass composite layups, expertly made to the very highest standards. The interior structure was further enhanced to support far greater rig loads, including strong, maintenance-free composite chain plates, reinforced forestay attachment and strong running back attachments. With internal water ballast tanks - port and starboard - electric and manual pump and gravity transfer systems were developed with control from the cockpit. Lateral transfer is primarily accomplished by gravity through a 3" valve and piping between two internal wing tanks, actuated by lines in the cockpit. An electric pump provides incoming water, controlled with valves in the cockpit floor; a manual high-volume bilge pump backs up the electric pump; gravity drain capability exists too. All four water tanks are integral to the boat's structure, are fabricated entirely of lightweight composites of foam and either specialized bi-axial or uni-direction fibers, and are an attractive addition to the interior. It takes just 15 seconds to transfer full ballast from port to starboard prior to a tack.Since this boat would be used short-handed, instrumentation, running rigging and all other systems were configured to make it very capable and seaworthy for bay and near shore conditions. This boat has fully-integrated instrumentation, dual wind displays, GPS chart plotter and autopilot, enhanced rudder and centerboard, reinforced tiller, reinforced cabin top structure, reliable cabin windows, refined electrical systems, AGM battery, roller reefed jib, mainsails rolled adjacent to the boom, self-tailing winches, Spectra running backs, Spectra lifelines, removable bow sprit, asymmetrical spinnaker, head and a capable galley. To make trailering more capable, the trailer was modified with a system using diagonal struts to laterally stabilize the 32' mast while raising and lowering and use a gin pole to erect and lower, single-handed. An integrated roller system allows the mast to be moved easily from the stowed position to the mast step, again single-handed.Sail InventoryMainsail: Main Sailing Partners, full-length battens - round, Spectra/mylar laminate, three slab reefs, with custom graphic, 375ft2 - new 2008.Jib: Main Sailing Partners roller furling, 110%, Spectra/mylar laminate, 104%, 75% fractional - new 2008.
